Abstract

A field experiment was conducted to evaluate the effects of methyl jasmonate (MeJA) and salicylic acid (SA) on the growth and spike yield of gladiolus (Gladiolus hybridus Hort.) cv. Priscilla Pink during the winter seasons of 2024–2025 and 2025–2026 at the crop cafeteria, School of Agricultural Sciences, Jaipur National University, Jaipur. The experiment was established on sandy loam soil in a randomised block design with three replications and 12 treatments. Treatments comprised an untreated control, MeJA at 50, 100, 150, 200 and 250 ppm, and SA at 50, 100, 150, 200, 250 and 300 ppm. Observations included plant height, number of leaves per plant, leaf length, leaf width, main stem diameter, number of spikes per plant and estimated spike yield per hectare. Treatment T11 (SA 300 ppm) recorded the highest values for all reported traits: plant height (107.33 cm), leaves per plant (8.33), leaf length (34.89 cm), leaf width (3.40 cm), main stem diameter (2.27 cm), spikes per plant (2.67) and estimated spike yield (4.44 lakh/ha). The control recorded the lowest values for these traits. Under the tested field conditions and concentration range, the higher SA treatment, particularly 300 ppm, was associated with the strongest growth and spike-yield response in cv. Priscilla Pink.
